Dekis, Fits, Hell, Kaos, and Nug in Poland

24.08.2013, Lublin, Poland.

A European phenomenon. A breeding ground of styles. A test of character. The definition of determination. This is Swedish graffiti.

The exhibition is prepared by Dekis, Fits, Hell, Kaos, and Nug -- five top and well established Swedish graffiti artists. Kaos and Nug belong to the first generation of writers from Sweden and Europe. They have been active since the 1980s, breaking the stereotypical approach to letters and setting new trends for graffiti worldwide. Dekis, Fits, and Hell belong to the second generation of Swedish writers, responsible for pushing the Scandinavian style a step further. In their works they have been going -- although not entirely -- beyond the borders of traditional graffiti.

We would like to dedicate this exhibition to our Lublin friend and writer Olaf 7DC (1981 -- 2002). A Pole, who gave his heart to the Swedish style. A Swede, who brought Poland Swedish graffiti.

CAROLINA FALKHOLT • FLYKTIGA VÄTSKOR @ HL Gallery 5 april

Vernissage: CAROLINA FALKHOLT • FLYKTIGA VÄTSKOR

Friday, 5th of April 18.00 - 21.00

HL Gallery. St. Eriksgatan 64 - Stockholm.
The exhibition runs through April 30. Open Mon - Fri 11:30 to 18:00, Sat 11:30 to 16:00.

Carolina Falkholt AKA Blue and Grafitta is one of Sweden's most famous graffiti artists. Recently she could be seen in Konstkampen on Swedish public service tv, and now she is coming to HL for a small solo show.

In February 2013 the artist created a large mural at Landvetter Airport. The place made her think about how painting - for her as practitioner, but also for the audience - could serve as an opportunity for escapism. The idea of creation might serve as escapism, just like a vacation trip to Thailand. This made her feel uncomfortable, but she could also not stop thinking about it.

Maybe she started to draw in order to escape reality and then proceeded to paint to get away from the small town she grew up in, later, from the small country of Sweden - and then back again.

The word escape, in the sense of flying, has a positive connotation, associated with freedom. The word fits well with other words like loud, fast, and easy. The word escape, in the sense of fleeing, instead has a negative connotation and is often used as a synonym to give up - to lose. But, sometimes you have to escape to save yourself.

The exhibition Fleeting Liquids continues the exploration of various aspects of flight. The method is a series of newly produced paintings, a lithograph and a performance at Culture Night Stockholm, April 20 (more about this later on).

You are all warmly welcome to the opening on Friday the 5:th of april! HL Gallery, St. Eriksgatan 64 - Stockholm. The exhibition runs through April 30. Open Mon - Fri 11:30 to 18:00, Sat 11:30 to 16:00.
